I must be out of touch with the latest geek news, because although I’m a regular reader of DC Comics, I had no idea they were changing their logo. This fills me with trepidation, because although the redesign of seven years ago was radical (and never quite as cool as the original), at least it preserved some basic elements – stars, circle:
- Original Logo
- 2005 Redesign
However, the new design jettisons these elements for something that’s, well…
Well, I’m sorry but I can’t get along with it. I know DC have been doing some radical stuff recently, which may well be helping to save the comic industry from a slow, painful descent into irrelevancy, but this new logo is bland. It’s dull. This, to me, does not say “Read about Batman because he’s cool.” It says “Read about Batman as he reevaluates corporate branding.”
I could say more, but frankly the best description of the new logo comes from Sarah Ellen over at Comicbooked
– “It’s like a bandaid, folks. Pull that sucker RIGHT OFF as quickly as you can.”
I can’t add any more than that.
