Don’t Call Me Shirley…

Rest in Peace Leslie Nielsen. I hadn’t seen any headlines this morning, so when I stumbled across the news of his passing on MSN I was shocked, partly because I hadn’t realised he was ill and partly because I’d’ve never tagged him as being 84.

While his trademark was deadpan slapstick (see The Naked Gun and Airplane!), my favourite role of his was Due South‘s Buck Frobisher, an aging mountie forced out of retirement to face a vengeful killer. His recurring role in the series started off as being played fairly straight, but soon became pretty Nielsenesque, but as Due South never really took itself too seriously, it worked.

And so, in tribute to Mr. Nielsen, spend a moment contemplating these words of wisdom:

"This woman has to be gotten to a hospital."
"A hospital? What is it?"
.
.
.
.
.
"It’s a big building with patients, but that’s not important right now."

Rest in peace.
