The Great Disappointment and the End of the World

Today is the anniversary of the Great Disappointment, when the Millerite sect in 1840’s America realised that the Second Coming wasn’t going to happen on 22 October 1844 as expected. I mention this mainly because it’s an interesting story that’s worth looking at, but also because it gives me an excuse to link to some posts I wrote about a million years ago, all to do with theories about the end of the world. They’re here, here and here. They make references to Hurricane Katrina and the devestation of New Orleans, which now seems an awfully long time ago – I’ve been writing this blog longer than I thought…
