I was at a conference yesterday, all about green manufacturing and related issues, so with my environmental awareness duly raised, I stumbled across the situation in Peru described by the press as the ‘Amazon’s Tiananmen‘. While it’s not getting the same airplay as the protests in Iran, it raises issues of just how serious the powers that be are about tackling climate change (ironic given the recently published UK Climate Projections 2009 report), as well as the broader issues that arise when indigenous peoples come into conflict with governments and corporations.

Meanwhile, because I’m an information junkie, and because libraries provide an invaluable public service beyond just lending books (free internet access comes in useful if you’re looking for a job), this report from Ohio and the ongoing controversy over library closures in the Wirral just get me twitchy…
