It’s been a hundred years since San Francisco was destroyed by an earthquake. I was there a couple of years ago; it’s sobering to think that they’re due another major quake, especially as estimates put the destruction as being far worse than in 1906. That’s a maudlin thought though; it’s worth remembering other aspects of SF history, the story of Emperor Norton being my favourite. His Imperial Majesty’s story is long overdue a movie treatment, although Neil Gaiman used his life as the basis for an issue of The Sandman (a very good issue, btw).
I guess the upshot of this is, remember the quake of ’06, support your local eccentric, and go visit San Francisco.
Watch the taxi drivers, by the way.
