Hope this is okay, received an email from Oxfam that I thought I’d share:
Send a message to Kofi Annan and the 194 World Leaders at the United Nations Summit to take all steps necessary to Make Poverty History and create a safer world.
Join Oxfam and hundreds of other organisations from around the world and demand that leaders of the world’s 194 countries take concrete steps at the UN Summit to make poverty history and create a safer world. The commitments made at the United Nations will affect billions of people. They are the dividing line between dignity and indignity, life and death.”
I’m a fan of Oxfam. And yes, I know that poverty is a huge issue, and that the poor will always be with us, and that making poverty history may be beyond our reach. But you know what? I always find people who think they CAN do something more interesting than people who think they CAN’T. I guess there’s still a bit of idealism in me, somewhere… 🙂
